Bowser
Hi, all. I’m happy to announce that the bowser project has officially been fully funded! Much thanks to everyone! I’ll get individual thank-you emails and/or cards out soon.
In terms of what happens next:
Presumably, Peace Corps will transfer the money into my personal bank account sometime very soon, or perhaps they have already done so (I have not yet checked). Once that happens, I will go to the bank with my headmaster or another official from my school and transfer the money into the school’s account.
Sometime in January (most likely mid-late January, after the school opens), the headmaster will go to the nearby, much-larger-than-Karatu town of Arusha to purchase the bowser. It’ll be brought from Arusha to Karatu on a hired flatbed truck, and brought from Karatu to the village via the tractor.
One complication with the project, though – the school’s tractor driver was caught having a very inappropriate relationship with one of our Form 2 (very underage) girls, and has been fired as a result, and so we’re looking for a new tractor driver. The school’s administration are confident that we’ll find one before long. I assume that we will – lots of people in and around the village can drive tractors, and I don’t think it’ll be too hard to find someone who’ll be willing to drive a tractor for the school.

No worries – now another charitable cause can get more money, right? I’m excited for the letter.
